A local resident has started an online petition to have the Pride flag raised in Petawawa.
Jennifer Neville says her request to fly the flag in Petawawa during the month of June was denied because of a town policy that declines supporting any declarations and proclamations, including flag flying.
She adds it’s not uncommon to see the Pride flag flying around the Ottawa Valley and notes at the end of May the rainbow flag was on display at the gates to Garrison Petawawa.
Other local municipalities such as Pembroke, Deep River, Renfrew and Arnprior also raise the flag to celebrate Pride month.
Neville will present to Petawawa council on Monday night (June 7th, 2021) and says if the Town agrees to raise the Pride flag, they have one ready to go.
As of this afternoon (June 4th), almost 300 signatures have been added to the petition to have the Pride flag raised in Petawawa.
