The President and CEO of the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH), Pierre Noel, has announced his intentions to retire at the end of 2022.
The news was shared by the hospital this afternoon (February 3rd, 2022).
Noel has spent upwards of 30-years in the healthcare sector and has led the hospital in Pembroke for the past 15-years.
Noel says it has truly been an honour and a privilege to be involved in leading the hospital in which he was born, in the community where he was raised, and in the Ottawa Valley where his heart belongs.
Noel adds having the opportunity to return to his hometown for the second half of his career has been ever so rewarding both personally and professionally and says he feels so fortunate to have had the opportunity to give back to the community through public service in an organization that touches so many lives.
Under Pierre’s leadership, and with the assistance of his exceptional team, PRH experienced a decade and a half of unprecedented growth and renewal, including:
- The almost doubling of the hospital’s operating budget to $100 million a year, all while achieving balanced budgets in each and every year.
- The creation of state-of-the art surgical facilities and the establishment of a new orthopaedic surgery program here in the Ottawa Valley.
- The securing of funding and approval to operate Renfrew County’s first and only Magnetic Imaging Machine (MRI).
- The introduction of a Family Medicine Teaching Unit, an official teaching site of the University of Ottawa, which has been the source of the majority of new family physicians coming to practice in Renfrew County.
- The establishment of local cancer care services in partnership with the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre.
- The successful achievement of accreditation with exemplary standing of the hospital’s governance practices and operations, which represents the top level of performance.
- The imbedding of a culture of continuous quality improvement within the organization centred on respect for the knowledge and creativity of valued front line staff.
The outgoing President and CEO of the PRH has expressed a commitment to assisting the hospital board in the process of recruiting a successor and to ensuring a smooth transition.
PRH’s Board Chair Richard Wilson says Pierre has been a visionary and a true leader and has collaborated widely to translate this vision into a high quality and responsive regional health service organization.
Wilson says his calm and steady hand, particularly during these past two years of the pandemic, will surely be missed.
During his time at PRH, Pierre was involved in many local, regional and provincial initiatives, and has served as both the Chair of the Board of the Ontario Hospital Association and the Chair of the Board of the Catholic Health Association of Ontario.
For the past five years, Pierre has taken on the additional responsibility of the role of President and CEO of the Mattawa Hospital and Algonquin Nursing Home in Mattawa.
Both PRH and the Mattawa facilities, sponsored by the Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario, will be initiating a search for his replacement in these roles in the months ahead.
