A Secured Area has been established in Ottawa.
“Unified Command” (Ottawa Police Service, OPP and RCMP) have set up a Secured Area from Bronson Avenue to the Canal, the Queensway to Parliament Hill.
This is to assure the protection of Parliament, Government buildings and critical infrastructure and to ensure that individuals comply with Emergency Measures Regulations.
You cannot travel to or within an area where an assembly is taking place contrary to the Regulations.
Anyone can enter the Secured Area if you fall under an exemption in the Regulations, meaning that you:
reside, work or are moving through that area (for reasons other than to participate in or facilitate the assembly)
You can enter the Secured Area if you are acting with the permission of a peace officer or the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness; if you yourself are a peace officer; or if you are an employee or agent of the Government of Canada or a province, who is carrying out their duties.
Police checkpoints will ask you your business for being there and you will be required to show your proof of exemption.
Motorists can expect traffic delays in and around the Secured Area, so avoid the downtown core if you have no reason to be there.
The Secured Area will only be enforced as long as is necessary.
Entering the Secured Area for the purpose of contravening the Emergency Act, may result in you being arrested and/or charged.
